All Eyes on Palestine: General Synod Report - August 2025

UCC MPS is pleased and encouraged that the United Church of Christ 35th General Synod overwhelmingly adopted the Declaration for an End to Genocide in Palestine. This landmark resolution marks a pivotal moment in the denomination's ongoing commitment to justice and peace in the Holy Land. It passed with a 90%+ majority, with 594 delegates voting in favor, 32 against, and 14 abstaining.
During deliberations, delegates affirmed the resolution's theological commitments, emphasizing that all people are made in the image of God and rejecting any justification of violence by faith. The resolution builds upon decades of UCC statements and resolutions, including the 2021 Declaration for a Just Peace Between Palestine and Israel, and reinforces the denomination's consistent stance for human rights and international law, while reaffirming its longstanding condemnation of anti-Semitism.
In addition to the passing of the emergency resolution, authored by Rev. Sabrina Jennings and submitted by the Southwest Conference, UCC MPS was busy at Synod talking to guests at our booth in the exhibit hall, facilitating a workshop, hosting vigils, and bearing witness during plenary sessions to ensure that Palestine remained at the forefront of people's minds.
Thank you to everyone who engaged with us at General Synod, we are heartened by the growing awareness and support for Palestine, and we look forward to connecting with many of you over the months to come!
