Educate Yourself and Others:

New Documentaries to Watch

Many people are aware of the new Palestinian film No Other Land, which recently won the academy award for best documentary. The film has, understandably and rightly so, garnered much interest and attention, even as it has failed to find a distributer in the United States. Issa Amro, a Palestinian peace activist, has pointed to the success of the film as an indicator that the tide of public opinion is turning towards more popular support for Palestine.

Yet, No Other Land is only one of many documentaries to be released in recent weeks and months, and for those wanting to educate themselves and delve more deeply into Palestinian solidarity work, there are several other must-see films out there. These films can be difficult to access, so we've done the work for you to let you know which films to watch and how to find them. We hope you will take the time to watch one or more of the films below:

Who Killed Shireen?

In this investigative documentary, filmmakers identify for the first time the Israeli soldier who killed the famous Palestinian-American reporter in 2022 – a closely guarded secret up until now, as Israel had refused to divulge his name even to top American officials, according to our sources. Click here to watch (Paid subscribers to Zeteo can watch the full film. Free subscribers can watch an 8-minute preview).

Israel's Reel Extremism

An on-the-ground examination of Israel and its society after many months of war, seen initially through the prism of viral social media posts from Gaza - and exclusive interviews with the soldiers behind them. Click here to watch ((Paid subscribers to Zeteo can watch the full film. Free subscribers can watch the first 10 minutes).

The Settlers

The Settlers is a BBC documentary that explores the controversial issue of Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank. It examines the historical, political, and social dimensions of these settlements, featuring perspectives from settlers, Palestinians, and analysts. The film delves into the impact of settlements on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the challenges they pose to peace efforts. Click here to watch.

The Encampments

Offers an urgent, intimate portrait of America’s student movement, ignited at Columbia University as students protested their universities’ ties to the war on Gaza. Featuring detained activist Mahmoud Khalil, alongside professors, whistleblowers, and organizers, the film captures the deeper stakes of a historic moment that continues to reverberate across the globe. Currently playing in theaters. Click here to find a screening near you, or to organize a screening in your community.
